Secret to a successful affair

The very best affairs are when no one gets hurt. When the lovers hide away from reality, exploring themselves without the fear of living with the consequences.

I'm editing my next release, The Intern. Jade loves her boyfriend, but can't help or stop the attraction for her married boss. He opens her to explore her sensuality, willing to break any boundary that doesn't threaten his marriage.

So, that brings me to my question - what is the secret to a successful affair? Here's my top three:

  1. Don't tell anyone. Not your 'best friend who will understand,' not an intriguing one liner on social media, not even love notes or texts to your lover. The first secret to a successful affair is keeping it a secret.

  2. Don't fall in love. There is a reason an affair is so delicious - because no relationship looks good in the light of day! Groceries need to be purchased and cooked, bathrooms need cleaning and bills need to be paid. Love your partner, not your lover.

  3. Know when to walk away. Usually, when it is still fun, before either person falls in love, or threatens to tell one of the partners. Take a deep breath and know you need to deal with this grief and loss alone.

Anyway, those are my top tips - what are yours?
